Peter Morgan Law
Peter F. Morgan was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, but grew up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia in the small city of Roanoke. He received his Bachelor’s Degree magna cum laude with honors from the American University in Washington, D.C. (1992) and his law degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia (1995).
After being admitted to practice law in Virginia in 1995, Peter worked for a small law firm based in a suburb of Richmond before eventually settling down in the Charlotte area and passing the North Carolina Bar in 1998. For the first ten years of his legal career, Peter focused on litigation with an emphasis on real estate and construction law disputes. One of the significant highlights of this phase of his career was the opportunity to argue an important case on subcontractor lien rights before the North Carolina Court of Appeals. The position Peter advocated for his client was accepted by the Court of Appeals and eventually upheld by the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Ready for a change after a decade of courtroom work, Peter obtained his real estate broker’s license in 2006 and sold residential real estate for several years with Helen Adams Realty while continuing to maintain a part-time law practice. Ultimately realizing that he was better suited to providing legal counsel than sales, Peter returned to full-time law practice in 2012 and opened his own law firm, now known as Morgan Law. From 2012 to the present, Morgan Law has focused on assisting clients with commercial and residential real estate transactions, construction law, and business formation and contract matters.
A key component to the growth and success of Peter’s law practice has been professional networking. Peter is one of the founding members of the SouthPark Power Lunch Chapter of Business Networking International (BNI) and has served in numerous prior leadership roles with the chapter, including service on the Membership Committee, during his seven+ years with the group.
Peter is married to Ashleigh, a managing attorney with the law department for Wells Fargo Bank, and is the proud parent of two sons, Samuel and Wesley. Samuel will be returning to Columbia University in the fall as a junior, while Wesley will be attending Myers Park High School. The Morgan family is actively involved with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and its related non-profit organization, the Charlotte Choir School (formerly the Choir School at St. Peter’s). Samuel is a “graduate” of the Choir School after having completed the Master Singers Program and singing in churches in numerous locations throughout the Southeast United States as well as England.
Outside of work and family, Peter devotes his spare time to martial arts classes, music, reading, hiking, exploring the vibrant restaurant scene in Charlotte, and travel. He has long been interested in the culture, language, and people of Latin America, which he traces in large part to his father. Father and son attended Spanish language classes together during two different summers in the 1980’s in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico while Peter was still a teenager. Later, Peter minored in Spanish and Latin American studies in college. His travels with his wife and family have since taken him to Guatemala, Belize, and numerous parts of Mexico, including most recently the Yucatan region and its numerous and amazing Mayan sites. One of Peter’s favorite “reads” in 2021 was On the Plane of Snakes by Paul Theroux, a fascinating exploration of U.S.-Mexico relations as well as the life and times of the Mexican people as experienced through the eyes of the “gringo” author who travels far and wide south of the border in search of truth, adventure, and meaning.
